Via Scoop.itSophia Dudésir – Actrice Transmédia

It’s an exciting time for filmmakers and storytellers who are exploring ways to enhance their stories via the web. One of the new genres to emerge is the “web” or “connected” documentary. In essence, these are documentary projects that try to engage viewers via interactive tools — from customizing the experience depending on when and where it is accessed, to providing a “choose your own adventure” structure. This isn’t your typical documentary, and if you’re not wary as you undertake one of these projects it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Ben Moskowitz provides important tips to keep in mind as you explore interactive tools; and if you haven’t experienced a connected documentary, we’ve got a couple for you to check out:

Creating Brand Happiness with Storytelling

Via Scoop.itStorytelling Communication narrative EVALIR

It struck me that happiness at any level is the result of many other feelings and actions. The diagram below is the simplest mental model I could create. Can one tell a story without using text? The answer seems to be yes because storytelling is clearly older than the text. Before text was invented, oral traditions of story telling were common in almost every culture that ever existed. In the last century, visual story telling in the form of albums and then video-based story telling in the form of audio and visual information gained popularity. Now we are at a point in the development of technology when one could use appropriate medium to convey appropriate experiences in a compelling form. Due to the long legacy of text and its domination in knowledge and experience sharing mechanisms, most emerging form of stories even using the latest technical device – the smart phone – are very text-oriented.

Tell Location-Based, Multimedia-Rich Stories With Moveable Feast

Arrange text, photos and videos on a map to create an immersive virtual tour.   In 2003, Steve Schultz organized a walking tour of Manhattan’s Lower East Side, narrating the history and culture of the neighborhood through its various landmarks and lesser known treasures. A little less than a decade later, and Schultz is now developing tools for you to create, share, experience — and soon, monetize — multimedia-rich walking tours all over the world.   The New York-based company is called Moveable Feast Mobile Media in tribute to the set of Ernest Hemingway memoirs by the same title. The startup has developed two apps thus far: an app for the desktop web that enables you to create visual, location-based stories, or tours, and an iPhone app [iTunes link] that allows you to experience them.
